IT’S SUMMER TIME!

Summer is officially in session and so are the long awaited swimming sessions!

Swimming is a great way to have fun with the family, but did you know that chlorine could be damaging to your eyes?

There are a few things you must consider before diving in:

1) The Effect of Chlorine on the Human Eye.

Pretty much every swimming pool contains chlorine in order to keep it clean and germ-free. Unfortunately, chlorine doesn’t keep pools 100% clean and can strip your cornea of its protective tear coating!

You might’ve also noticed that when you swim a lot your eyes get all puffy, red, leaky or even blurry. Scary stuff but we have solutions for you!

  • Make sure you use saline water to flush out your eyes! It’s all-natural!
  • Apply a cold compress on your eye to soothe those eyeballs!
  • Pay us a visit to make sure that the problem is not too serious.

2) Lubricate those Eyes after Swimming!

Do your eyes feel kinda dry after swimming? The reason for this is: like we mentioned previously, chlorine tears the cornea’s protective tear coating.

Because of this, your eyes will feel irritated, unfortunately! To keep the irritation at bay, make sure you lubricate your eyes after swimming! Grab the appropriate lubricating drops from your local pharmacist

3) Can I wear Contacts whilst Swimming?

Always always always remove your contacts before swimming!

With the advent of modern sportswear, we are absolutely blessed to have prescription swim goggles to help you have a more enjoyable swimming experience!

Be careful of swimming with contacts because you could potentially develop acanthamoebic keratitis. This happens when a water-borne amoeba gets trapped between your contacts and your eye. Developing this infection can impair your vision or cause corneal ulcers!

So remember, wearing contacts in the pool is an absolute no-no!

At Crystalline Eyewear, we have a number of swimwear goggles for both adults and the little ones! Come on in and grab yourself a pair! Swim goggles can cost as low as $79 with a prescription.

Protect your eyes and have a blast in the pool this summer!
